International Day of Radiology 2024
Do you know where radiology was born?
On the occasion of the International Day of Radiology, we have the privilege to show you some pictures of its “birthplace”: It was on 8 November 1895 in our beautiful city of Würzburg that Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the rays that were later named after him ('Röntgenstrahlung').
Even though this happened by chance, just a few years later doctors were already using Röntgen's discovery to diagnose and treat cancer patients. (The negative side effects of the ionising radiation only became known much later.)
Since that memorable day, radiology and its numerous achievements, including MRI, have become indispensable to this day.
